Mother's Day and All That Jazz
1 Comments:
After a great dinner with mom and dad on Mother's Day at Mama Ayesha's in Adams Morgan, I walked down the street to Bossa to listen to some jazz. While thoroughly enjoying an after dinner snifter of scotch and listening to Thad Wilson's quartet Kindred Soul, I had a faint remembrance of a scene in a movie from 2004 that sums up how happy I am to see my parents. I looked it up and here it is:All these promises that we make and we break... Why is it, do you think, that people get married. Passion? No.
Because we need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet... What does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things. All of it, all of the time, every day.
You're saying that your life will not go unnoticed, because I will notice it. Your life will not go unwitnessed because I will be your witness. You can quote me on that if you like...
-- Susan Sarandon in "Shall We Dance"
Thirty-five years together and they can still make each other smile. Ah. Good vibes.
I like this entry and your lovely folks. Get married? Or start a blog? Nice blog variety, keeps me coming back.
