Pre-Flight at Lost Nation

0 Comments:

Tom was nice enough to take me up for a flight in a Cessna 172 out of Lost Nation airfiield outside Cleveland, Ohio. While he was pre-flighting the aircraft and making sure that the bird wasn't broken, I took a knee and snapped a shot of the prop with no flash. It was about 8 o'clock in the evening with no wind (a rare condition when you're so close to Lake Erie) and a clear sky. The hangar door had just been closed and I didn't want to wash out Tom's night vision. The result is grainy but mildly interesting. Very mildly interesting.

Flying over Cleveland on a clear, still night was amazing, however. It's a lot harder than it looks. When Tom handed the stick over to me, the clean and straight flight path suddenly became the Flight of the Bumblebee. North American Air Defense was scrambled and we were forced down by a flight of F-16 Falcons where some nebulous threats about looking for cavities were invoked. Curious, really, when they could have just called my dentist to confirm that I have 8 fillings... Actually, everything after the bumblebee is just confabulation. Nice NSA man! Down boy!
