Day 3: Money and You Don't Even Know It

Las Vegas, NV

I woke up late at around noon and walked down to the Bellagio to eat breakfast and do some gambling. We walk by Caesar's, which put the "tack" into tacky according to LJ. There are wedding parties and bridal showers running around everywhere. And people from all walks of life are everywhere. After brunch, we play some slots and then some craps. Craps is more my game. I was up $250 when I walked away. Then we walked by the roulette table and took some serious chances. I was up $600 at one point. But took a few chances and blew it back to even. Ach vell, so it goes.
We walk back to the Venetian to grab some dinner at Tsunami. After all, where we're headed for the next few days, Asians much less Asian food, are pretty rare. I ate rice and kim chee to my heart's content. Ah. Life is good. To top things off, Krispy Kreme has a bakery in the casino so I stopped off and bought a dozen doughnuts right off the conveyor belt. Drool. No beer and no donuts makes John something something. Bliss.
Heading back to the room, we watch "Dumb and Dumber" and start falling asleep. Bug and LJ stayed in but I went down to the floor and lost $200 at a craps table, where a young unescorted woman was getting harassed by an older, richer guy who was pompous and cursing up a storm. He got asked to leave by a big bouncer. After that, the three guys running the table and the pit boss started giving her some serious tips and she started winning a lot. I watched and tried to figure out if she was planted by the casino or a working girl trolling for a "date". Vegas is an interested place for people watching...
Which is what I should have stuck with. On the way back up to the room, I stopped by the roulette table and tried to break even. Luck held and I was up $100. Then like a tired dumbass, I bet the bank and lost a cool G. Ouch. I walked back upstairs, had a beer, and went to bed to ruminate on the benefits of prudence and caution. A word to the wise. Never gamble on your lonesome. The buddy system works better at keeping your superstitious and atavistic instincts in check. This was my first time in a casino and it may not be my last, but I think that I know the ground rules now. I seem to have to learn everything the hard way. Wah. One of my last conscious thoughts was the irony in going bust just after watching "Dumb and Dumber." But at least I still have my doughnuts.
